MISSION STATEMENT

UTA is currently facing the biggest challenge of not having a community center but our mission is to achieve our goals as below:

Productive citizens of Utah and to be a Resource to individuals, groups and organizations in issues relating to Tibet and Tibetans.”

Utah is growing with increasing cultural diversity. Tibetans although small in number represent a unique and colorful aspect of this diversity and contribute both economically and culturally to this state. The Utah Tibetan Cultural Center (UTCC) will be a center from which the community can organize and maintain its vitality and unique cultural heritage.

The role of the UTCC is to preserve and promote the unique cultural heritage of the Tibetan people by organizing seminars, talks, exhibitions, and other activities to promote Tibetan identity and culture. It will also provide and support educational, economic, health and community development programs for the Tibetans in Utah. Providing the Tibetans cultural groups and organizations with one place to meet which will improve the effectiveness and referrals among organizations, increase collaboration and promote understanding the vitality among the community.

The UTCC will also serve as a resource for anyone interested to learn more about Tibet, Tibetans, language, religion and other aspect of the Tibetan culture. The UTCC will be another Center available to other groups in the Utah community who may require meeting facilities.

 

The Utah Tibetan Association's primary focus is preserving and promoting the unique Tibetan cultural heritage. It assists the local Tibetan community in adapting to their new homeland and becoming self-sufficient. It provides services in education, health, economic development and initiates active participation in community development programs by the Tibetan community. It also works with various community groups to further the common goals of neighborhood safety, health and economic well being.

Objectives:

  • Supporting educational and economic development.
  • Health and community development projects by providing tutoring sessions for students.
  • Connecting families and individuals in need with appropriate resources, such as school workers, physical and mental health facilities, jobs, educational and business opportunities.
  • Providing programs and activities for the families and children to strengthen relationships through positive activities such as celebrations of traditional Tibetan holidays, picnics, camping, outings, and other community services.
  • Serving as democratically elected leaders of the Utah Tibetan Association.
  • Working on programs and specific projects.
  • Teaching Tibetan language and culture.
  • Conducting meditation and prayer gatherings.
  • Utah Tibetan Association is especially committed to nurturing the leadership skills of young people by providing training opportunities and volunteer experiences.
  • Providing opportunities for the greater Utah community to learn more about Tibet and Tibetan culture through lectures. Performances and workshops, classes those are open to the public.
  • Finding and developing education and career training resources for the children and adults that nil1 include ESL and citizenship classes.
  • Organizing and promoting cultural exchange programs.
  • Participating in and supporting community development programs.
  • Interacting and working in partnership with various communities groups initiatives to improve the quality of life of all Utahans.
  • Educating youth about ancient values of family life.
  • Working for human rights in the world.
  • Showcasing Tibetan art, music and dance.
  • Connecting families and individuals in need with appropriate resources, such as school workers, physical and mental health facilities, job and educational opportunities.
  • Make available the UTCC facilities to other communities in Utah.
